Bimetal technology

General characteristics

Bimetal is a composite material, made of 2
layers, having different expansion coefficients.
A temperature variation makes a distortion,
due to the interaction of these 2 layers which
partially act in opposition.

Dimensions constraints

In snap action applications, the three dimensions (Length/width/thickness) must satisfy specific proportions: this is Delta Concept know-how.

Bimetal grades

There are about 30 different grades of thermo-bimetal: each of these grades has specific characteristics, as the deflection rate , the electrical resistivity, the thermal resistivity, the density, the elasticity, etc ...

Added values

The Bimetal technology is an old technology (more than 100 years old). It is used today in numerous innovative applications, thanks to its physical properties, added to a particular forming and thermal treatment process, as Delta Concept’s know-how.

Double function :
A Bimetal (or a bimetal sub-assembly)
is used both as thermo-sensor and as an actuator of a security or a regulation mechanism.

Cost saving and ecological :
The bimetal mechanism is often
designed simple and at low cost.
It is autonomous and it operates without
electrical energy.

Reliable and sustainable :
Our fabrication process guaranties
a reliable operation,
on millions of cycles.

How the bimetal provides thermal regulation without energy?

Post by: gilbert_admin_delta in News

In brief! Bimetal technology enables mechanical action based on temperature without any electrical power supply, by exploiting the physical properties of two metals with different thermal expansion coefficients. Used for decades in the electrical component…
